I know… I know… that’s far from being young and in love, and far from being newlyweds, but being well versed on how to make a relationship work and endure through the years has its perks.

Their story is “typical” in its start, but with a storied history across their many years, The Ongoing Mind would like to share it with you:
In 1980 Gay & Katie saw each other for the first time “across a crowded room.” Gay remembers thinking: “That’s the most amazing woman I’ve ever seen in my life. I’ve got to find a way to meet her and find out if she’s just as amazing to talk to.” Katie recalls: “While Gay was apparently trying to figure out his approach, I spontaneously got the urge to go over and start a conversation with him.”

But even with that somewhat magical beginning, they still ended up getting into a lot of conflicts in their early time together. Like others I know, Gay and Katie had a huge love for each other, but being stubborn, got into repeated power struggles about who was right and who was wrong (…sound familiar?). There was also the usual struggles about money and sex. Unfortunately, in those days there were limited books about relationships and any good mentors were very hard to find.

Then, a year into their relationship (and on the verge of splitting up) something happened…

they made a series of life-changing discoveries:
…a new set of relationship tools
…that took them out of pain and conflict
…and into a new state of consciousness, feeling a new, easy flow of love.

But get this…
Eventually, other couples started coming to them to find out how they managed to do it – enjoy more love in their life. By the time their book, Conscious Loving, came out in the early 90s, they had worked with about a thousand people, often six couples at a time in Gay and Katie’s living room.

Then, on “one fine day” as they call it, they received a call from an up-and-coming talk show host named Oprah Winfrey… she wanted the Hendricks to demonstrate their techniques in front of ten million people in her worldwide living room. Suddenly, their life became a blur of constant activity! With their two kids off in college by then, they dedicated their lives full-time to helping people everywhere enjoy more love in their lives.

Now, hundreds of seminars later, Gay and Katie, still getting along just fine, have developed the new program, Lasting Love Made Easy.
